Entrance exams for the start of studies in winter semester 2020/21

Application deadline: Sun., 31.05.2020

Unfortunately we have to inform you that due to the recommendations of the Austrian Federal Government regarding the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) our university has to cancel the entrance examinations on-site.

To complete your entrance examination, you have to send us a video application.

Please send us your video application until 08.06.2020 to studieninfo@muk.ac.at.

You need to submit the following videos:

  • one (or more) meaningful video(s) must be submitted on the basis of the requirements to assess artistic suitability.
  • furthermore, an introductory video explaining the motivation to complete the program must be submitted (maximum two minutes).

You will be informed personally by e-mail about the result of your entrance exam.

Programme for the entrance exam

Academic Diploma Programme Classical Operetta

The academic diploma programme Classical Operetta is designed in a similar manner to the Opera course. Each year, an operetta is practised and performed at the end of the academic year.

The video entrance examination includes the following parts:

2 operettas - arias, - songs, - chansons in German language.

Musical-dramatic - i.e. not only "vocally performed" - interpretation of the chosen arias.
Clarity in the arrangement and presentation of mental processes. Readability of mental transitions, also during auditions and interludes.

This does not necessarily require "walks" or big movements, but mental preparation and development of the content, which is reflected in voice colour, speech formation, facial expression, body, acting commitment.

Interpretation of buffo and soubo board numbers must show dance and movement training or talent.

Applications for studying at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna can be submitted online at anytime; they will be reserved for the next admission period. Applications submitted after the application deadline can no longer be considered for the subsequent audition date.
