Bachelor's Programme

Room 4.21 (Bräunerstraße 5, 4th floor, 1010 Vienna)

The entrance examination is in several sections. You will need to pass the preceding part before moving forward to the next section. The entrance examination is used to check the suitability of the course candidate in the first of physical aptitude (intact muscle and joint function, healthy cardiovascular system – this must also be proven in advance in the form of a doctor’s certificate!), previous dance training and aptitude, rhythmical and musical aptitude, physical and mental resilience and suitability for the teaching profession.

Exam content:

1. Physical and dance aptitude
Checking of the physical and dance conditions, physical coordination, physical resilience and previous dance training.

2. Artistic aptitude
Examination of creative requirements (improvisation exercises, music interpretation), social competence (working with and in a group), mental requirements (dealing with stressful situations and pressure to perform) and educational aptitude (reflecting capacity)

3. Rhythmical and musical aptitude
Rhythm imitation of four-bar form, rhythmic question / answer exercises, develop pattern of movement in eight-bar form, coordination exercises for movement and rhythm, singing ranges in response, singing piano-played melody to the end.
Aural test, recognition of time signatures, rhythmic and melodic music dictation, basic musical terms.

4. Suitability interview
The aptitude of the candidates for an artistic profession will be examined in an interview with the board of examiners. A psychologist can be consulted in an advisory function.

5. Final round
Examination exercises from the 1st - 3rd sections of the exam (will be given in the group, each candidate will present an approx. 10-minute choreographic teaching situation with the group [free choice of theme, prepared task])

Applications for studying at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna can be submitted at the Admissions Office anytime; they will be reserved for the next admission period. Applications reaching the Admissions Office after the application deadline can no longer be considered for the subsequent audition date.
