Michael Spyres was born and raised in the Ozarks (Missouri, USA) and grew up in an extremely musical family. He is one of the most sought after tenors of his generation. Accomplished and acclaimed in the widest range of repertoire, his career has taken him from the genres of Baroque to Classical to 20th century while firmly establishing himself as an expert within the Belcanto repertoire as well as within Rossini and French Grand Opera.

Michael has worked with some of the world's most renowned conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Mark Elder, Valery Gergiev, Emmannuelle Haim, Sir Andrew Davis, Michele Mariotti, Alberto Zedda, and Evelino Pidò. In his meteoric rise Michael has quickly established himself as one of the greatest singers of his generation and has already sung at many of the world's most prestigious opera houses and festivals worldwide such as Teatro San Carlo, Teatro La Scala, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Opera National de Bordeaux, Opera Comique, Covent Garden, English National Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Minnesota Opera, Opera Theatre Saint Louis, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Nederlands National Opera, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Opéra de Lyon,  Opéra de Dijon, and the Chicago Lyric Opera.

In addition to his operatic career, Michael is equally accomplished within the concert world and has given concerts and recitals in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Prague, Pesaro, Bologna, Napoli, Sao Paulo, Tokyo, Cape Town, Shanghai, Vienna, Dresden, Munich, Paris, Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Recent engagements have included Faust in Berlioz's Damnation de Faust (Tokyo Symphony), Enrico II in Donizetti's Rosmonda d'Inghilterra  (Teatro Maggio Musicale), Pirro in Rossini's Ermione ( Opéra de Lyon and Théâtre des Champs Elysées), Tempo in Handel's Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno (Opéra de Lille and Caen), Don José in Bizet's Carmen (Théâtre des Champs Elysées), the title role of Haydn's Orlando Paladino (Opernhaus Zurich), the title role of Mitridate, re di Ponto in London (Covent Garden), as well as his debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper in the title role of Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann.

Future seasons will see his debuts at the Metropolitan Opera New York, the Vienna State Opera and the Opera Philadelphia as well as his return to the Opéra National of Paris and to the Zurich Opera House.Michael Spyres has recorded Donizetti's Les Martyrs, Le duc d'Albe (Opera Rara), Dvorak’s Stabat Mater (Decca), Herold’s Les Pres aux Clercs (BruZane), Mayr’s Medea in Corinto (Dynamic), Mazzoni's Antigono (Dynamic), Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang (LSO), Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots (ASO), Rossini's Guillaume Tell, La gazzetta, Otello, Le siège de Corinthe (Naxos) and Petite Messe Solennelle (Naive), Schum.ann's Faust-Szenen (ASO), Verdi's Otello (CSO) and his two solo recital albums A Fool For Love (Delos) and Espoir (Opera Rara).

Am 28. & 31.1. sowie 3. & 6.2.2019 ist Michael Spyres als Don Ramiro in Rossinis La Cenerentola an der Wiener Staatsoper zu erleben.

Am 1.2.2019 finden um 18:30 bei DaCapo Klassik (1010 Wien, Seilerstätte 30) ein Künstlergespräch und eine CD-Präsentation mit Michael Spyres statt.
