Professor Franz Patay, born in Vienna in 1961, was appointed as Deputy Administrative Director at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna in 1987, one year after receiving his doctorate in law from the University of Vienna. In 2002, he was named as the coordinator of Vienna’s “Mozart Year 2006” and was responsible for all coordination and implementation from 2004 to 2007 as the managing director of Wiener Mozartjahr Organisationsges.m.b.H. This was followed in 2008 by appointment to the executive board of Joseph Haydn Burgenland GmbH, where he was responsible for financial planning, programme coordination and marketing of the Haydn Year 2009. In 2012, he took over the restructuring of the Kunsthalle Wien and was the founding director of Kunsthalle Wien GmbH. Before his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (previously known as the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität), the culture manager was in charge of KUNST HAUS WIEN GmbH from October 2007. He has also been the managing director of the IMZ International Music + Media Centre Vienna since 1994 and is responsible for arranging the programme of the film festival at Rathausplatz, among other things. Franz Patay was and is also a member of countless international art and music committees (including the Paris International Music Council and the “International Council” of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences New York) and regularly gives lectures in both Austria and overseas. In 2014, he was awarded the honorary title of Professor by the President of Austria. In May 2016, Patay was elected into the board of trustees of the Alban Berg Foundation. Also in 2016, Patay was appointed to the general assembly of the Vienna Symphony as successor to Thomas Drozda.
